Application for Marriage Registration
Marriage registration in Assam is a legal requirement under the Indian Marriage Acts, which helps in establishing the legal status of a marriage. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to apply for marriage registration in Assam:
Eligibility
- Both parties must be at least 21 years old for the groom and 18 years old for the bride.
- Both parties must consent to the marriage freely.
- Neither party should have a living spouse at the time of marriage (in case of monogamous marriage as per law).
Guidelines
- Marriage Registration can be applied through RTPS portal (https://rtps.assam.gov.in/).
- After the application form is filled up, supporting documents needs to be uploaded.
- Once the documents are uploaded, fee payment needs to be done via online mode.
- Post fee payment, an acknowledgement receipt gets generated mentioning the RTPS acknowledgement number in the RTPS portal.
- The Marriage Registration application is then verified at the Sub Registrar Office.
- Once Registration application is approved, applicant can take online appointment through RTPS portal/visit the Sub Registrar office after 30 days from the approval of the Registration application.
- A marriage notice is accordingly generated and displayed at the concerned Sub Registrar Office and the same is also available online in the RTPS portal.
- Bride and Bridegroom accordingly visit the Sub Registrar Office on the scheduled date and after the necessary proceedings at the Sub Registrar Office, both Bride and Bridegroom perform the marriage physically in front of the Marriage Officer.
- After the completion of the Marriage and the necessary proceedings at the Sub Registrar Office, Marriage Officer hands over the Marriage Certificate to the Bride and Bridegroom.
- Applicants are not required to visit the service delivery offices and get in touch with concerned authorities except in cases where inspection/site visit/physical visit of applicant/hearing is mandated by extant acts and rules. Also the information provided in the website is updated.
Supporting Documents
- Copy of the Applicant’s ID proof(Bride/Groom) to be uploaded in the annexure section
- Copy of the Address proof (Voter ID/Passport/Bank Passbook/Aadhaar Card etc) of Bride/Groom
- Copy of Age proof(Birth certificate/HSLC Admit) of Bride/Groom
- In case of Intended Marriage, download the Marriage Notice Template and Upload it in the annexure section along with the signatures of both bride and groom
- In case of Solemnised Marriage, Signature of both Wife and Husband are required to be uploaded in the annexure section
Stipulated Time Limit
After 30 days and before 90 days from the date of publication of notice for intended marriage/application for registration of marriage

- Rs. 50/- notice fee
- RTPS fee of rupees 200/- per application
- Convenience fee- Rs. 10/-
